"Summit County Friends of Animals" is now "Friends of Animals Utah"

Summit County Friends of Animals (FOA) will now be known as Friends of Animals Utah (FOAU), in an effort to further expand rescue efforts and funding.

When FOA was founded in the mid 90s, we never envisioned the growth we have seen over the last decade, having rescued and re-homed thousands of animals all over the state, and even helped out with rescue efforts in other parts of the country, it is only fitting that our new name encompass more than just the county in which we are located.

Many people like to keep their donation dollars local, and assumed we only helped animals in Summit County. That hasn't been the case for many years, and we hope our new name will encourage potential donors to see the good work we around the state and consider contributing.
In addition to operating "Furburbia," the group's adoption center located in Park City's Tanger Outlet Center, Friends of Animals Utah is currently constructing a new state-of-the-art rescue and rehabilitation facility in Browns Canyon. The new center, scheduled to open in late 2009, will provide emergency rescue services, which will include the rescue of larger animals such as horses. It will also provide space for low/no-cost spay and neuter surgeries for pet owners in the community who cannot afford full-price services and a special area for education and human/animal based therapy programs.

Green Power Grant from Rocky Mountain Power will help
Summit County Friends of Animals reduce operating expenses

Friends of Animals Utah (FOAU) has received a $32,500 grant to support the installation of renewable power equipment at its new rescue and rehabilitation center in the Browns Canyon area.

The grant will support 3 to 5 kilowatts of solar or wind power that will serve to offset a portion of FOA's projected electrical expense at the facility on an ongoing basis, thereby reducing overhead costs and leaving more funds available to support their programs. The on site renewable power installations will also help provide backup power to some critical areas such as the surgical suites.

It is truly an exciting time for this nonprofit organization that has rescued progressively more animals each year as they have grown in capacity. The new center, scheduled to open in 2009, will provide emergency rescue services include the rescue of larger animals such as horses. It will also provide space for low/no cost spay and neuter surgeries for pet owners in the community who can not afford full price services, space for training and education for elementary-age children in animal care, and human/animal therapy programs.

Grant from Park City Foundation helps Friends of Animals expand programs,
forge ahead with new facility

Friends of Animals is preparing for a significant program expansion as it finalizes construction on its new rescue and rehabilitation center in the Browns Canyon area.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant from The Park City Foundation, FOA will be able to expand current programs, such as humane education, and continue with construction of its new facility, due to be completed this summer. The new center will enable FOA to expand current program services to include rescue of larger animals such as horses and livestock, as well as provide space for low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for pet owners in the community who could not otherwise afford it. A large disaster relief area is also planned, which will provide space for emergency rescue operations.

Petco Foundation Grant to help pets in tough economic times

A $2,500 grant from the PetCo Foundation's "We Are Family Too" program will allow FOA to help people in the Park City community who are struggling in the down economy. This grant will be used to help people keep their companion animals in difficult economic times, assisting them with animal-related expenses such as food and medication.
